Coconut coir or fiber generally has a golden color after cleaning and is hence, often called ‘The Golden Fiber’. Mature coir fibers are stronger than most of the other natural fibers such as cotton and flax. A mature coconut is used to obtain coir fiber. It can be used to make curled coir rope, which is then used to make coir mattresses, rubberized coir pads, coir cushions, carpet underlays, seat cushions, and drainage pipe insulation, among other things. For use as upholstery padding in the automotive industry, brown coir pads are sprayed with rubber latex, which fuses the fibers together (rubberized coir). For insulation and packaging, coir fiber is also employed.
